When I first started blogging I did not know much about SEO and how it could help me out. I wish I had known what I know now. If you are trying to start a blog I highly suggest investing in a domain and hosting plan. I will explain why in a moment. I currently use HostGator and really like the hosting that I have been getting from them. You can pay monthly or purchase for a whole year.
When you are starting out this might not sound like a good idea, but in reality it isn’t very expensive and you will drive a lot more traffic and have a lot more control over your website than if you go with one of the Free Blogging Platforms (Blogger, WordPress.org, Weebly, or many others).
I started out on Blogger and when it comes to SEO it is much harder to do when you are new at all of this. Optimizing SEO on there is not easy, especially when you are first starting out and you do not know anything about how to do it.
Learning Meta Tags, Tags, Categories are all the first steps, but there is so much more. If you go with a self-hosted WordPress website you can find awesome plugins like the YOAST SEO Plugin that I use and love. It helps me to really optimize my posts.
If I forget to I always see a lower amount of traffic especially no traffic from search engines when I do not use it. Remember search engine optimization is important. This is what brings you new traffic from people searching for things that you talk about.
